Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos - Rysanek, King, Scovotti, Troyanos, Schoeffler, Kunz, Auger; Böhm. Wien, 1967
Listen to a Sample:
It is quite difficult to imagine a better cast for Ariadne auf Naxos. Leonie Rysanek, in the title role, is near perfect. Her voice seems to be able to endlessly soar into the stratosphere of Strauss' melodies. How often have you heard a Bacchus grunt his way through the role? Not so with James King who brings god-like bravado and beauty of tone. A young Tatiana Troyanos is an explosion of energy and a good foil to the Music Teacher of Paul Schoeffler, whose glorious career was starting to wind down. Jeanette Scovotti brings a fuller tone to the role of Zerbinetta. The sound is excellent.
