Bizet: Carmen (In German) Troyanos, Ilosfalvy, Donath, Braun; Böhm. München, 1969

$9.95

Description:

A young Tatiana Troyanos delivers a red-hot Carmen, full of fire and magnetism. Helen Donath provides the perfect foil as Micaëla, her sweet-toned soprano bringing clarity and contrast to the drama. Karl Böhm draws remarkable nuance from the score, showing what is possible when this music is shaped by a true master. This performance also marks the world premiere of the Fritz Oeser Edition, which has since become standard at major opera houses. While Victor Braun is a little underpowered as Escamillo, the overall impression remains a compelling one. The sound is excellent.
