Pros:

  • This performance of Der Rosenkavalier marked the reopening of the Dortmund opera house, which had been destroyed in World War I.
  • Teresa Zylis-Gara makes a good argument why the part of Octavian should be sung by a soprano, especially a soprano with her unqiue vocal color.
  • Elisabeth Grümmer bring Mozartian poise to the role of the Marschallin.

Cons:

  • The sound is not ideal.
