Pros:

  • Norma has long been regarded as a showcase for a star soprano, but the opera truly reaches its zenith when a star soprano is paired with a mezzo of equal caliber. Such was the case in this performance, where the luminous Montserrat Caballé joined forces with Tatiana Troyanos. Their partnership brought a rare balance and intensity to Bellini’s masterpiece, elevating the dramatic and musical impact to legendary heights.
  • Montserrat Caballé's performance shows a voice slightly past its absolute prime, with a touch of hardness creeping into her tone that occasionally tempers the ethereal quality of her legendary pianissimo high notes. However, what is lost in delicacy is compensated by the increased size and power of her voice, lending an impressive weight and dramatic presence to her interpretation.
  • Tatiana Troyanos once again demonstrates her extraordinary versatility, matching Caballé stride for stride with her rich tone, impeccable vocal control, and mastery of bel canto style.
  • The sound is excellent.

Cons:

  • None to mention.
