The Viennese were quite fortunate to have Franco Bonisolli in town on the occasion of this performance of La Bohème to fill in for an indisposed Jaime Aragall. Despite the lack of rehearsal, Bonisolli throws himself into the role of Rodolfo singing with the kind of raw intensity that was his trademark. He is joined by Ileana Cotrubas who brings restrained pathos and silvery tone to the role of Mimì. Giuseppe Taddei is excellent as Marcello and Lotte Rysanek is the kind of full-voiced Musetta that one rarely hears these days. The sound is very good.
