Pros:

  • André Cluytens was not as prolific in the Wagner arena as some of his colleagues which is a shame because every time I encounter this conductor in Wagner it is a revelation. In his hands the orchestration seems at times lighter than air.
  • Hans Hopf makes the role of Siegfried sound downright easy.
  • Birgit Nilsson is found at the height of her (astonishing) vocal powers.

Cons:

  • There is some occasional static.
