During her day Virginia Zeani, was the definition of the full package.  She possessed a beautiful voice capable of opulence and agility, she was a superb actress, she had an innate sense of musicality especially in the Italian repertory, she was very beautiful and she was capable of singing an astonishing range of roles, from Rossini and early Verdi to Puccini and even Wagner.  I wanted to highlight her versatility in this compilation.  Among the many excerpts included are Senta's ballad in Italian and Desdemona's aria from Rossini's Otello.  Conventional wisdom would lead you to believe that you can't sing both of those styles convincingly.    However, Virginia Zeani was anything but conventional.  The sound for the most part is good, however there is some distortion in the last minute or so of Senta's ballad. This compilation features arias and excerpts from La Sonnambula, Alzira, La Rondine, La Bohème, Manon Lescaut, Fedora, Il Piccolo Marat, Der fliegende Holländer and Rossini's Otello
