Wagner: Siegfried - Svanholm, Flagstad, Herrmann, Weber, Höngen; Furtwängler. Milano, 1950 (Plus Bonus Act III - 3-24-1950)
$18.95
Description:
Set Svanholm offers a marvelously lyrical and sweet-toned Siegfried in this performance, bringing a gentler and more musical approach to a role often dominated by brute strength. His interpretation adds emotional nuance and vocal elegance to Wagner’s demanding score.
Kirsten Flagstad is radiant as Brünnhilde. Her rendition of “Ewig war ich” is sung with exquisite beauty, and in the opera’s final pages, she soars fearlessly above the orchestra, her voice as commanding as it is expressive.
Josef Herrmann, in the role of the Wanderer, delivers a solid performance, but in the context of this cycle, he falls a bit short. Following Ferdinand Frantz’s sterling portrayal in the earlier operas, Herrmann’s interpretation lacks the same vocal authority and dramatic impact.
