Die Walküre

Though many of the singers may not be widely known, I found myself completely captivated by the performance. Helena Braun brings a slender, youthful quality to Brünnhilde, while Ferdinand Frantz offers a suave and tender Wotan, particularly moving in the opera’s final moments. Günther Treptow sings Siegmund with a beautifully lyrical approach, never forcing his voice beyond its natural limits, and Hilde Konetzni rounds out the cast as an expressive Sieglinde.

The Vienna Philharmonic delivers a crisp and precise performance, with Rudolf Moralt leading the orchestra in a way that allows the brass section to shine—often to thrilling effect.

Overall rating

Excellent performance

Most of the cast rarely or never sang in North America, so they aren't as well remembered as they deserve.Even if they are not as dramatically strong as say Hotter and Varnay at the time, they all have strong voices and play well to the microphone, whispering some of their lines. It is a radio broadcast with no audience in near studio level sound.Recommended.
