The other customer reviews already posted here share my enthusiasm for this wonderful, joyous performance of Wagner's most human work. Adam sings with his usual great diction and intelligent insight. He also performs all the trills that most singers leave out. I would love to have heard the originally scheduled Walter Berry, but that was not to be. Kmentt sings a romantic Walther and Jones is a superb Eva with a lovely trill for the "Keiner wie du" moment in Act Three. Martin already sounds very sopranoish as Magdalene (she would sing Eva herself a couple of years later). Böhm conducts a magical performance.The sound is excellent. All Meistersinger aficionados should have this!

This one lived up to its reputation. All the leads are strong, including a solid Sachs from Adam and the best singing I have ever heard from Jones. The sound is excellent, and I rank this with my favorites, the mono studio recordings by Knappertsbusch and Kempe, the radio broadcast by Kubelik (available here at Opera Depot, though I have the commercial release), the studio Karajan, and the Solti concert performance from the 90s. Though of course you can find better individual performances of any particular role, this is as a whole one of the best. Bohm, as always, paces Wagner superbly.

This is a justly famous Meistersinger available for several years on the Orfeo label in slightly (and I mean "slightly") better sound. Theo Adam, who was a last minute replacement for the unnerved Walter Berry, is an excellent Hans Sachs, at turns tender and comical, yet authoritative when required. Waldemar Kmentt was better known for his Mozart but makes a very good Walther von Stolzing. His voice may lack tonal beauty, but he sings with such ardor and lyricism that his prize song puts many others sung by tenors possessing more attractive instruments to shame. But perhaps the best thing about this wonderful performance is the conducting of Karl Bohm. One only has to listen to his opening prelude, played with such flexibility and beauty, to know that great things are in store. This performance belongs in every serious Wagner collection.

Gwyneth Jones, known more for tragic heroines, gets a rare turn as ingenue in this production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and is nothing short of stunning. Theo Adam scales back his stentorian baritone, delivering a Sachs that is both reflective and human.

What emerges setting Directorial venerable Karl Boehm. Singers has already exhaustively said producer mr.Andy. As the sound scenery can be appreciated here, especially in the Flac format, soft and warm tones not highlighted by a parallel German reprint. Thank you.
