If Marisa Galvany had had the benediction of major record labels, she would certainly have been recognized as one of the greatest Verdi sopranos of all time. How many singers can bring her level of vocal heft from low C to high E? Galvany works in many extra high notes including a high d flat at the end of Act I and a thrilling high e at the end of the banquet scene. However, these additions are more than just empty vocal displays. Galvany manages to make these moments come out of Lady Macbeth's ruthlessness and ultimate desperation. Guillermo Sarabia is an very good Macbeth. His lyrical baritone works well against Galvany's gutsy lady, making him come across as subservient patsy. The sound is good.
