This Recording marks one of Riccardo Muti's earlier forays into early Verdi rarities. Free from the mannerisms that would mar some of his later interpretations, Muti shows that he has a deep understanding of what makes Verdi great. Ruggero Raimondi was also pretty young in 1970 and may lack some of the gravitas that he would have later, but in exchange offers virile singing. Although Antonietta Stella was not even that old at the time her voice is already showing some wear and tear. Still her opulent soprano finds moments to shine. The sound is excellent.
