Great Performance, Mediocre Sound!
The cast delivers in this performance. Cerquetti doesn't have the ideal high pianissimo for a Verdi soprano, but she has everything else in abundance. Rankin demonstrates again why she had such a high reputation in this repertoire. I love her howl of despair when she learns of Radames' fate as well as her thrilling high A at the conclusion of the scene. Labo is very good and MacNeil is a frightening and very well-sung Amonasro. Corena and Treigle are each very impressive in their roles. Narducci must have had some rehearsal because he keeps the stage and pit are relatively well-coordinated.The problem is the mediocre sound. We've all endured worse, but I wish someone had leveled out the volume so that one didn't have to adjust it every other track. This isn't for the casual listener, but Verdi lovers as well as fans of the singers should put up with the sonic chaos for the sake of theperformance.

Treigle is Il Re
As a huge fan of Norman Treigle, I bought this to hear him as Il Re. He did not disappoint. Sound quality was adequate. Especially liked MacNeil. Cerquetti was a fine Aida.
