Puccini: Turandot - Nilsson, di Stefano, Price, Zaccaria, Paskalis; Molinari-Pradelli. Wien, 1961
Listen to a Sample:
This may be one of my favorite performances of Turandot. It hits the mark on every level. Birgit Nilsson is incomprable in the title part. Leontyne Price's voice is pure velvet. Even Giuseppe Di Stefano who, according to many, was supposedly decline at this time sings heroically and passionately. Francesco Molinar-Pradelli's conducting is both exotic and Italianate. He creates one of the most beautiful and mystical "Hymn to the Moons" I have ever heard.
