This is the only Salome I have ever come across in Italian.  However, this recording is more than just an oddity.  The main draw is Tito Gobbi's Jochanaan.  Here, in his prime, he bellows his opening lines with plenty of brimstone.  You have to appreciate his superb musicianship as well.  Lily Djanel may be a little over-parted, but she sings with virginal purity.  Nino Sanzogno shows just how Italianate Strauss' score is.  This is a must-have for lovers of this opera.
