La Donna del lago
Montserrat Caballé was a true champion of bel canto, bringing a rare vitality and excitement to even the simplest music—a feat few singers have matched before or since. Her dazzling coloratura is rivaled only by her sumptuous, creamy legato.
Franco Bonisolli is a superb partner to Caballé, with a voice that shares her remarkable blend of drama and agility. His instrument, essentially dramatic in nature, soars with the flexibility and brilliance of a leggiero tenor. Julia Hamari also delivers an excellent performance as Malcolm, adding further depth to the cast.

Bel Canto Fan
This is one of my favorite Rossini operas and now probably my favorite recording. A young Caballe in great voice. My only criticism is that the finale seems rushed compared with other recordings I have. Sound overall is excellent.

Marvellous Rossini
Possibly one of the best things of the many highlights of my Operadepot collection. I rediscovered Bonisolli here thanks to Andy and he sings up a storm in this, as do the others. Caballé is in fine form and on her best behaviour too, with needle-sharp coloratura, fabulous legato, her trademark breath control and gorgeous tone. Altogether a thrilling performance and one I would encourage any bel canto lover to have.

A WONDROUS OCCASION FOR LOVERS OF ROSSINI AND “BELLISSIMO CANTO!”
Imagine a time before a work like “La Donna” would be known to any of us. Caballe, Hamari, Bonisolli, Bottazzo, Washington are all youthful in tone, supple in line, sure in intonation, perfect in pitch and precision. This is a masterful and exuberant performance led by Bellugi. Sound excellent. Spoil yourself, add this to your library, and provide your own superlatives!
