Rossini: La Donna del lago - Caballé, Bonisolli, Hamari, Bottazzo, Washington; Bellugi. Torino, 1970
Listen to a Sample:
The world of bel canto had a great proponent in the form of Montserrat Caballé. She could take what was seemingly the simplest music and breath a vitality and excitement into it that few singers have been able to do before or since (that is not to say that this opera is anything approaching simple.) Her coloratura is surpassed only by her creamy legato. Franco Bonisolli proves a worthy partner to Caballé as his voice was similar in that it was essentially a dramatic instrument that had the agility and top of a leggiero tenor. Julia Hamari is also excellent as Malcolm. The sound is excellent.
