Rossini: Guglielmo Tell - Bechi, Filippeschi, Fineschi; Bellezza. London, 1958
Listen to a Sample:
Often times when we think of Guglielmo Tell the attention usually goes to the tenor. Here Gino Bechi reminds us who the title character is and drives the performance with his elegant yet snarly voice throughout the evening. Mario Filippeschi as Arnoldo is equally outstanding and manages the brutal tessitura of this role with exciting, open-throated singing. Onelia Fineschi's voice is a little thin for this role. One misses the opulence of Caballé or even Eva Marton. However, she shows that she is more than comfortable with Rossini fioratura. The sound is good.
