What an amazing find!!! To find a Hoffmann that not only feature a very young Placido Domingo but also Beverly Sills as the three female leads, Norman Treigle as the villains and even Nico Castel as the servants. And it is in English of all things! Well, when Domingo is singing it is not always easy to discern what language it is in and at times he even reverts to the French, but the quality of singing is so high that I can't imagine why anyone would care. I was also surprised with how well he copes with the tessitura of this role. It is clear from her entrance that the public was in love with Beverly Sills and she does not disappoint from the gymnastics of the Olimpia scene to the sensuality of the Giulietta Scene. Norman Treigle bring a dignified stage presence and excellent diction to his roles. The sound is good.
