She navigates the vocal gymnastics of the Olympia scene with ease and brings alluring sensuality to the Giulietta scene. Norman Treigle brings his signature dignity and excellent diction to the villainous roles.

Great Hoffmann From Another Era!
This Hoffmann is from San Antonio, Texas, at least according to the website devoted to Beverly Sills that chronicles all of her appearances. She was in excellent voice: dazzling as Olympia, sensuous as Giulietta, and heartbreaking as Antonia. This was probably the Tito Capobianco production so the final epilogue back in Luther's tavern is not performed. Friends of mine who saw the production tell me Sills did appear as Stella, but silently.Domingo sings most of the time in English, but reverts to the original French for "Ah, vivre deux!" and "O Dieu de quelle ivresse!". He was in sterling voice for this performance, his high notes ringing out excitingly.Norman Treigle shows what a presence he had even if you can't see him. Other singers may have sung a higher note to conclude "Scintille, diamant!", but few can equal his demonic characterizations of each of the villains.Nico Castel is a delight as the four servants. The chorus doesn't sound well-rehearsed and Maestro Alessandro has his hands full keeping everyone together. Occasionally the voices are a little distant, but they come into focus and the ear adjusts.Highly recommended!
