Description:

This live performance of Mefistofele sets a high bar—arguably one of the finest ever captured in performance. Renata Tebaldi is sublime as both Margarita and Elena, and the microphone placement in the hall offers a rare sense of the sheer size and impact of her voice—something not fully conveyed in her studio recordings. Carlo Bergonzi brings polished elegance to the title role, while Nicolai Ghiaurov commands the stage as Mefistofele, his thunderous bass seamlessly blending menace with charm.

Note: This performance includes several cuts, most notably much of Act II and the complete omission of the Walpurgis scene.
