Another great concert that takes me back to my youth when I first heard it.  This concert comes from a joint concert by Renata Tebaldi and Franco Corelli done in Tokyo in 1973.  The adulation that the Japanese public  heaps on these two artist is truly moving and inspires them to great heights.  Now it is true that it was late in their careers and the ravages of years of thrilling, passionate singing cannot be ignored.  But they show that they are still masters of vocal production and even more importantly great style.  One of the highlights for me is Corelli's account of Monteverdi's "Lasciatemi morire."  The performance is about as far from a period performance as you can get but is truly eye-opening in what happens when this kind of music is sung with the level of passion that Corelli brings to the stage.  The sound is good.
