Pros:

  • Walter Berry may be the ideal Wozzeck. His earthy, yet elegant bass-baritone fits the both the character and the vocal writing perfectly, creating a protagonist who seems equal parts poet and psychopath.
  • As Marie, Anja Silja brings a youthful, almost innocent quality to the role of Marie making the doomed character's ultimate downfall seem all the more unfair.
  • Karl Böhm was an ardent proponant of this opera, having known Alban Berg is his younger years, and gives the complex score an organic feel that never feels academic or contrived.

Cons:

  • The sound is generally pretty good, although there is some occasional ghosting.
