  • This recording features Astrid Varnay in some rare arias from here early career from operas like Macbeth, Il Trovatore, Simon Boccanegra, Aida, Don Carlo, Cavalleria Rusticana, La Gioconda, Thaïs, La Juive, "Ah, perfido!" (Beethoven), Fidelio, Die Walküre, Elektra, Salome, Lohengrin, Parsifal, Tristan und Isolde and Götterdämmerung.
  • Most notably, this recording contains a very rare fragment from the last 18 minutes of the innaugural Post-War Götterdämmerung at Bayreuth (1951) featuring Varnay as Brünnhilde, Martha Mödl as Gutrune and Herbert von Karajan conducting (See below)

  • The above mentioned Götterdämmerung excerpt has five fade-outs where the material was lost.
