Mozart: Così fan tutte - Rothenberger, Elias, Stratas, Kozma, Krause, Berry; Ozawa. Salzburg, 1969
Listen to a Sample:
A performance of Così fan tutte in the sixties was still somewhat of a rarity, let alone an uncut one! That's right, almost all of the music is included. They even opt for Guglielmo's alternate aria "Rivolgete a lui lo sguardo." The cast is excellent. Anneliese Rothenberger's voice may be a little light in this role for my taste but she musters up gusto in "Come Scoglio" and sings with amazing precision. On loan from the MET we have Rosiland Elias as Dorabella and Teresa Stratas as Despina. Stratas almost steals the show in her doctor/notary scenes. Tom Krause sings Guglielmo and Walter Berry charms as Don Alfonso. A young Seiji Ozawa leads the band. The sound is decent.
