This is one of my all time favorite recordings of Parsifal. André Cluytens leads the La Scala orchestra in a sweeping and beautiful performance. This is also the only recording of Parsifal I know of featuring Rita Gorr as Kundry which she sings fearlessly. Parsifal was probably the perfect role for Sando Konya. He combines purity and strength and colors the words beautifully. Boris Christoff is booming as Gurnemanz. By the way if you recognise a familiar voice among the flower-girls its a young Montserrat Caballé. This was her debut at La Scala.
