Pros:
- Josef Greindl, famous for his Wagnerian villains, shows a softer side as Hans Sachs. Though the color of the voice is clearly that of a bass, he manages the grueling tessitura of Hans Sach's vocal writing with remarkable ease.
- Pilar Lorengar's sweet Eva is every bit the ingenue with just a pinch of Wagnerian steel.
- Hans Beirer's burnished tenor finds itself right at home in both the lyrical and stentorian passages of Walther's music.
Cons:
- The sound lacks depth.
