Pros:

  • This German-language version of La Rondine highlights the work's roots in operetta (Puccini conceived of the opera in hopes of capitalizing on the popularity of The Merry Widow. The anti-German feelings of WWI made him reconsider, and he adapted it into a more traditional opera.)
  • Ljuba Welitsch brings glamor and vocal opulence to the role of Magda.

Cons:

  • Given how short this opera is, I am not sure why the decision was made to savagely cut the score.

BONUS:
Ljuba Welitsch sings arias from Un Ballo in maschera
