One of the greatest joys of running this site is the opportunity to spotlight singers who, due to a lack of recording contracts or the absence of large-scale PR campaigns, have slipped into relative obscurity. One such artist is Berit Lindholm. Emerging at a time when her compatriot, the legendary Birgit Nilsson, was beginning to wind down her illustrious career, Lindholm inevitably faced unfair comparisons. Yet, she brought qualities to the dramatic repertoire that set her apart.

Lindholm's slender yet steely soprano possessed a purity that infused roles like Brünnhilde with a rare, wide-eyed earnestness—something not often heard in Wagner’s works. This collection of arias showcases Lindholm's artistry, featuring selections from Wagner as well as striking excerpts from Turandot, Leonore, and a previously unreleased recording of Un Ballo in Maschera. It is a testament to her unique contributions to opera’s dramatic canon.
