This has truly been the month of Russian Operas in Italian. The more I hear them sung in Italian the more I see how lyrical these scores are. Boris Christoff is classic in this part. He comes across as both larger than life and deeply fragile and he seems right at home in the Italian language. The Dmitri of Mirto Picchi may be worth the price of the recording by itself. His voice is perfect for this part. Rina Corsi is an imperious Marina and brings a little bit of Lady Macbeth to the part. The sound is excellent.
