Giordano: Fedora

Parutto, Del Monaco, Boyer, Baggiore; Savini

Adria, 1974

$9.95

Description:

Fedora proves to be an ideal vehicle for Mario Del Monaco in the later years of his career. The vocal writing is more forgiving than many of his signature Verdi roles, allowing him to avoid the most treacherous technical terrain while still offering plenty of opportunities to unleash his trademark, thunderous tenor—much to the audience’s delight.

In the title role, Mirella Parutto, who began her career as a soprano before transitioning to mezzo, returns to the soprano repertory—though in a role with a relatively comfortable tessitura. While she opts out of the high C in the Act II duet, she nonetheless impresses with her rich tone and regal bearing, bringing poise and vocal warmth to the part.
