I have to say that there are few performances I have ever encountered that approach the level of perfection that this one does.  The cast is made up of some of the finest Verdians that have ever walked the planet.  The absolute standout is Leontyne Price.  The beauty of her voice combined with the technical security to make a role like Leonora sound easy is nothing short of miraculous.  Carlo Bergonzi is an elegant Manrico, more lover than warrior.  Fiorenza Cossotto is a wild Azucena and Piero Cappuccilli sings one of the finest "il balen" I have ever heard.  I can only hope that one day I will find myself at a performance with artists of this caliber singing in the prime of their careers.  The sound is excellent.
