You will find yourself smiling from start to finish listening to this performance of Verdi's most human of all his operas.  Perhaps the appeal to Falstaff is that it celebrates humanity warts and all, never apologizing for human failings.   Peter Glossop's regal yet gruff baritone is ideal for this role.  His Italian is superb for a non-speaker.  He is joined by mostly his country men (and women) in the rest of the roles with the exception of Regina Resnik's Quickly, which is just priceless.  Ryland Davies is a sweet Fenton and Richard Van Allen, who passed away not too long ago, shows that he probably deserved a bigger career than he had, even if his voice may be a shade too small for the big Verdi rep.  The sound is excellent.
