When I first made this recording available I was surprised to see a how popular it became.   Upon listening to it I began to understand why.  Gundula Janowitz probably should have resisted Karajan from pushing her into heavier repertoire and stuck with these roles.  She is such a wonderfully ethereal Mimì.  Carlo Cossutta may not be the ideal Rodolfo but he sings with grace.  Anneliese Rotherberger sings a charming Musetta and what a treat to get Cesare Siepi as Colline.  The sound is very good.
