Gré Brouwenstijn is a revelation as Tosca. She brings a voice that has both the steel and the bloom to serve the many demands Puccini places on his soprano, but what sets her apart are the subtle touches she brings to the character, giving her a more human touch. There have been many great Toscas but few as lifelike as hers. Ermanno Mauro’s burly tenor voice is heard to great effect as Cavaradossi. Jan Derksen offers a solid Scarpia without distinction. The sound is excellent.
