Pros:
- Despite being a masterpiece, Rossini's Otello has never earned its rightful place in the standard repertoire. The obvious reason is that Verdi's version looms too large, however the fact that it calls for three tenors of exquisite vocal abilities has not helped it any. Fortunately, this performance assembles three fantastic tenors in the lead roles and makes a very good argument for the piece.
- Orlando Montez sings with imposing warmth and remarkable coloratura given the dramatic color of his instrument.
- A young Philip Langridge is cast perfectly as Iago, singing with distinction as well as bringing his formidable skills as an actor, making him every bit as menacing as Tito Gobbi or Leonard Warren.
- A young Bruce Brewer rounds out the cast as Roderigo, nearly stealing the show with his Act II aria "Che ascolto? ahimè, che dici?"
Cons:
- None to mention
