Phyllis Curtin was a singer's singer. She never achieved super-stardom but was adored by fans and composers alike. A superb musician, she was often called upon to sing contemporary music and premiered roles including Susannah by Carlyle Floyd and La Mère coupable by Milhaud. This performance of Tosca gives us a chance to hear her in more standard rep and it displays a voice and artistry that could tackle almost any challenge. She is joined by Franco Corelli as Cavaradossi. Corelli was at his peak and sings like an absolute god. The sound is good.
