This performance, in Swedish, proves that Verdi (and by extension) Shakespeare can transcend language barriers. In fact the singers seem freer singing in their native tongue to invest all the vitality and exuberance that this opera requires. Ingvar Wixell is very good as the old knight. The color of his voice is slightly more youthful than one might expect in this part. Elisabeth Söderström is equally charming as Alice. The sound is good.
