This recording is a fascinating document, capturing a young Montserrat Caballé before she ascended to the lofty heights of her stardom. Additionally, it offers a rare performance of Richard Strauss' arrangement of Gluck's score. As expected, Strauss leans toward a more romantic orchestral approach, which may feel slightly anachronistic, but it also underscores how ahead of his time Gluck truly was.

Caballé is simply ideal in this role. Her voice embodies both the innocence and the strength one would expect from one of literature’s most iconic martyrs. The sound is good.

SURPRISINGLY CLEAR

This was the shorter German version, not often performed these days. Caballe had a clear beautiful voice in full bloom, in a part that didn't seem too taxing, though also not particularly memorable.

Purely wonderful

Wonderful version of that opera of Gluck revisited by Richard Strauss !!!! The casting is very good and our Divine Montserrat Caballé is showing to us that she is young but yet a great artist at the summon of her art. Here she acts and sing a very beautiful interpretation of Iphigenie. She is ready to be crowned la Superba !!!! Our Greatest Diva. Thank you.

It is a nice recording in German. I think it is a bit shortened and is very interesting to hear Richard Strauss ' arrangement. Regarding Caballe - she is really good, has no problems with the title role and is really able to show emotions. She projects well and she' s really enjoayble. Other Wolansky, *** and Schoeffler are all very impresive in their roles, too. I also like the orchestra under De Almeida.
