This release is anchored by the extraordinary Isolde of Liane Synek, captured here in resplendent form. Her command of the role’s formidable demands is nothing short of superhuman, navigating its extremes with remarkable poise and concluding with a luminous, exquisitely phrased Liebestod. Karl Liebl is an excellent Tristan, his performance leaving one wishing for more of Act III. At the podium, Ludwig Kaufmann, a familiar figure in Wiesbaden, offers a surprisingly thoughtful and well-shaped reading of the score.
