Pros:
- Otto Klemperer lightens his approach to Wagner's effervescent comedy, bringing transparent textures and surprisingly fleet tempi to the proceedings.
- The all-Hungarian cast does extremely well, particularly the Sachs of György Losonczy, who generously gives of his luscious bass-baritone all evening without a hint of fatigue.
- As Walther, József Simándy lyrical, and technically flawless instrument reminds me a bit of Wolfgang Windgassen.
- The sound is very good.
Cons:
- There are some issues with orchestral intonation from time to time.
