Carol Neblett is a soprano who should have been a worldwide super-star. Her technical ability alone allowed her to sing an incredibly wide variety of roles, from Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito to Thaïs and even Senta. The role of Senta, in particular, was well suited to her youthful yet opulent soprano, and she delivers a performance that, in my opinion, rivals some of the best. Norman Bailey is excellent in the title role, with a voice that blends gruffness and warmth, adding extra depth to the mysterious figure of the Dutchman. The sound quality is very good throughout.
