Il Tabarro

Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924)

DESCRIPTION

Ettore Bastianini, still in his early thirties, brings a commanding presence to the role of Michele. His baritone is dark and burnished, carrying both authority and a vein of melancholy that suits the character perfectly. As Giorgetta, Nora De Rosa soars over the orchestra with confident projection while revealing a touching vulnerability, particularly in the heartbreaking duet where Michele confronts her about having fallen out of love with him since the death of their child.

Salvatore Puma sings the role of Luigi with unflinching security, and a young Luis Alva makes a strong impression as the song vendor, lending the small role a bright, memorable presence.
