I would be lying if I suggested that this recording features Elena Souliotis at her vocal best. However, despite the occasional rough edge, she manages to capture the drama of the opera, never tiring or, more importantly, holding back. While it may not be the dictionary definition of "bel canto," she makes a strong case for the dramatic nuance of this opera. Bianca Berini compensates for Souliotis' vocal shortcomings, delivering a more polished performance. Luigi Roni's commanding bass makes him an excellent Enrico VIII.
