One of the great pleasures of having this site is the ability to promote singers who due to lack of recording contracts or behemoth P.R. machines have fallen somewhat into obscurity. One such singer is Berit Lindholm. Lindholm came of age as her fellow countrywoman, Birgit Nilsson, was starting to slow down her legendary career. Following such monumental footsteps invited unfair comparisons, but there was actually much that Lindholm brought to the dramatic repertoire that Nilsson lacked. Lindholm slender yet steely soprano had a purity that gave, for example, her Brünnhilde a wide-eyed earnestness that is all too rare in Wagner. This collection of arias features Lindholm in Wagner as well as some excerpts from Turandot, Leonore and a rare recording of Un Ballo in maschera hitherto unreleased.
