Pros:
- Astrid Varnay was nearing the end of her soprano days by the time of this performance. Nonetheless she demonstrates that she was still a Brünnhilde to be reckoned with, bringing ample sound and an interpretation informed by over 25 years experience in this opera going back to her early days with Melchoir and Traubel.
- Ditha Sommer as Sieglinde is quite a pleasent surprise, bringing an effortless, yet robust sound. If she were singing today one could easily see her being in demand at the top houses.
- Martti Talvela as Hunding is the definition of luxury casting.
Cons:
- The sound lacks depth and there are some unfortunate drop-outs.
