Pros:
- Richard Strauss' magical fairy tale comes to vivid life in this English-language version of the score. The translation deftly manages to evade some of the more ridiculous aspects of the libretto, and the singers all convey the text without shortchanging the stentorian vocalism the score requires.
- A young Anne Evans brings purity of tone to the title role.
- Pauline Tinsley's fearless vocal style is an excellent fit for the role of the Dyer's wife.
- Norman Bailey conveys avuncular warmth as Barak.
- The sound is very good.
Cons:
- None to mention.
