Pros:

  • Günther Treptow brings burnished, lyric tone to the title role.
  • Anny Konetzni fares best during the seductive moments, bringing voluptuous color and a rich middle-voice. She doesn't do as well when the role goes above the staff. (Fortunately Kundry is not as high as some of the other Wagner heroines.)
  • Ludwig Weber resists the temptation to push his beautiful bass voice beyond its means, resulting in a performance that has a lyricism closer to what you might expect from Handel rather than Wagner.

Cons:

  • The sound is clear, but some of the mic placement was less than ideal resulting in, for example, certain choristers sticking out.
