Description:

This performance is a testament to the astonishing level of Wagner singing that could be found in Germany during the 1970s—even beyond the major centers like Berlin and Munich. The cast, strikingly youthful across the board, delivers with a freshness and vitality that brings new energy to Die Walküre.

Berit Lindholm leads the performance with authority in the title role, her Brünnhilde vibrant and vocally assured. Ursula Schröder-Feinen infuses Sieglinde with ecstatic sensuality, making her scenes pulse with emotional urgency. Leif Roar offers a Wotan of unusual vocal beauty, shaping his long monologues with elegance and expressive control.

There is some mild skipping at the end of Act I and a few drop-outs throughout the opera, mostly during instrumental sections.
