Die Walküre – Act I
Ludmila Dvoraková is the clear standout in this performance, offering a richly satisfying Sieglinde that combines warmth, power, and vocal agility. From her resonant low notes to her radiant top, she commands attention and anchors the performance with assurance and musicality.
Ticho Parly, by contrast, starts with promise but begins to flag as the evening wears on. The role's demands seem to take a toll, and just when greater vocal intensity is needed, he pulls back—dampening some of the dramatic payoff.

Excellent Performance in Very Good Sound!
Ludmila Dvorakova sang several seasons at the Met and elsewhere in the United States, but her career was centered in Europe. She only made a few studio recordings so many opera lovers only know of her peripherally. By 1973 when this concert performance of Act One of Die Walkure took place in Budapest (Andy, please correct your heading!) she had started to move away from some of the higher roles. Sieglinde lies in the best part of her voice and doesn't require her to sing beyond top A. Her unique, smoky timbre is particularly suited to this music and she interprets the text naturally without exaggeration.Danish tenor Ticho Parly probably entered the heldentenor arena a little early ("It was good for my bank book, but not so good for my voice!" he said in an interview.) Nevertheless he does some fine singing here with ringing top notes. He'd have had a bigger career today. Josef Body is a dour Hunding with a strong bass voice. Ferencsik provides a dramatic, controlled framework for his singers and adds to the excitement of the performance. The sound is very good broadcast stereo.
