Verdi: La Traviata - Callas, Valletti, Zanasi, Collier; Rescigno. London, 1958

Listen to a Sample:

When Maria Callas was at the height of her powers she used her pull to assemble the best casts and production teams when she sang.  Here is a perfect example not only of her brilliance but of the production values she demanded.  Every musical detail seems both carefully considered and completely organic.   Maria Callas' commitment to the title role is astounding.  She never sings for beauty's sake alone.  Every note exists to convey the character.   The sound is outstanding.
