Verdi: Aida (Excerpts) - Shuard, Vickers, Shaw, Elkins, Kelly; Loughran. Manchester, 1964
$4.95
Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- Amy Shuard gives a masterclass in Verdi singing, combining opulence of tone with astonishing vocal control.
- Jon Vickers is heard at his prime as Radamès.
- It is nice to get to hear Australian mezzo-soprano Margreta Elkins in a substantial role. Although she may lack the fiery temperament of some of her colleagues, she acquits the role of Amneris with security and finesse.
Cons:
- The sound is slightly muffled.
